The Basics: 

  • All trips require advance registration unless otherwise specified.  If weather is inclement, call leader to confirm that hike is still on.
  • There is a $2.00 guest fee for non-members. 
  • The Hike Grading indicates the estimated length of the hike and difficulty.  It is located after the date and name of the hike.  The first character is the estimated miles.  The second character is the estimated difficulty: (E) Easy, (M) Moderate, (H) Hard, and (S) Strenuous.
  • If you have not already, please visit our Trail Policy page before joining a trip.  There are also some helpful suggestions for hikers there.

SUNDAY - FEBRUARY 5 - PATAPSCO VALLEY STATE PARK: HILTON, GLEN  
ARTNEY, ORANGE GROVE  AREAS - 11H

Join us on this 11 mile hike in Howard and Baltimore Counties. Points of interest on this hike in include Bloedes' Dam, two Swinging Bridges, Ilchester Rocks, and Cascade Falls. The hike has numerous stream crossings, a total ascent of about 2,000 feet, and numerous rocky sections of trail.  Our pace will be moderate (that is, average speed while moving will be 2.5 - 3 mph). SATURDAY - FEBRUARY 11 - CUNNINGHAM FALLS/CATOCTIN PARK—15S
Length: 15 miles; Elevation gain: approximately 2,500 ft. Hike from the Manor Area of Cunningham Falls to Bobs Hill and Cat Rock. We’ll then hike to Catoctin Park to Chimney Rock and Wolf Rock. Return to the Manor Area on the Old Misery Trail. SUNDAY – FEBRUARY 12 - LOCH RAVEN RESERVOIR- MERRYMAN TRAIL   7M 

An out and back hike along several scenic Loch Raven trails. Beautiful views of the water. Some rocky hills. Bring a snack and water. We will keep up a steady pace and should be back by 12:30 pm. For more information, phone 410-299-8833.

WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 15 – LIBERTY RESERVOIR/OAKLAND MILL – 5E

WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 15 - PVSP - 7.5M

This hike includes the Ilchester Overlook, Bloede’s Dam, Cascade Falls & two unmarked trails.  Five modest stream crossings, some rocky terrain & about 1200’ of cumulative ascent.   For more information, phone 410-245-9843 before 8 PM.

WEDNESDAY - FEBRUARY 15 - BALTIMORE’S GWYNNS FALLS TRAIL (WEST HALF)-13M

SATURDAY – FEBRUARY 18 – CATOCTIN MOUNTAIN PARK – 10H

This circuit hike in will take us to Cunningham Falls, Hog Rock, Blue Ridge Summit Overlook, Thurmont Vista, Wolf Rock, Chimney Rock, and a beautiful section of trail along Hunting Creek. Many sections of trail are rocky, total ascent is 1,500+ feet. Lunch will be at Chimney Rock’s spectacular overlook. SATURDAY – FEBRUARY 18 – PATAPSCO VALLEY STAT PARK – 8M

This is an 8-mile dumbbell-shaped hike with a total cumulative ascent of about 850’ in a little used, but delightful, section of the park in Carroll County. Easy bailout possible at the 6-mile point.  Those choosing to do all eight miles will continue past the bailout point for another two-mile loop.  Bring lunch and water.  Be prepared for some muddy sections. For more information, phone 410-245-9843  before 8 PM. SUNDAY – FEBRUARY 19 – GUNPOWDER FALLS STATE PARK HEREFORD AREA – 5M

WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 22 – SOLDIER’S DELIGHT – 5-6M

WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 22 – SOLDIERS DELIGHT – 5M

This hike in Baltimore County will be partially in the open, on rocky terrain, with small stream crossings and some hills..  For more information, phone (410) 429-4954.

SATURDAY – FEBRUARY 25 – SKYLAND TO PANORAMA – 10H

We will hike about 10 miles on the AT along the top of the winter world in Shenandoah National Park. If blessed with good weather we will have outstanding views. Be prepared for any type weather and trail conditions, including ice in shady sections.  The hike will be led at a moderate pace. SUNDAY – FEBRUARY 26 – UNION MILLS AND HASHAWHA – 10H

This hike starts on the Kowomu Trail portion of the Union Mills trails and transits Spiegle Hill before entering Hashawha.  We’ll visit the raptor cages and have lunch near the nature center before returning to the Union Mills trails. WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 29 – CANTON/FELLS POINT – 4E

WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 29 – HERRING RUN PARK/LAKE MONTEBELLO – 7E

WEDNESDAY - FEBRUARY 29 - GUNPOWDER FALLS NORTH AND SOUTH TRAILS – 10M

SATURDAY - MARCH - 3 - CROMWELL / LOCH RAVEN 10M

SUNDAY - MARCH 4 – SUSQUEHANNA STATE PARK – 10M

 Hiking at a brisk pace, we will begin and end along banks of Susquehanna River using riverside and wooded trails. SUNDAY – MARCH 4 – FAMILY HIKE -- PATAPSCO STATE PARK – GLEN ARTNEY – 3E

Kids 4 and older are welcome to join their parents and other hikers on this easy 3-miler. We’ll walk through the woods, along the river, under the train trestle and around Lost Lake. WEDNESDAY – MARCH 7 - APPALACHIAN TRAIL ACROSS MD SERIES - 10H

An out and back hike of a total of 10.5 miles going south from Alternate US-40 to White Rock Trail and Bear Spring Cabin. Total elevation gain is 2,000' with the longest climb of 800' over 1.6 mi. Pace averages 2.5 mph. For more information, phone (410) 486-8737.  CARPOOL COST: $5.00.

SATURDAY – MARCH 10 – LOCH RAVEN RESERVOIR – 8M

SATURDAY - MARCH 10 - GREENBRIER TO WASHINGTON MONUMENT - 12H
This out-and-back 12 mile hike in Washington County begins in a far corner of the Greenbrier State Park, proceeds past Greenbrier Lake,  ascends the Bartman Hill Trail to the Appalachian Trail, and then heads south for lunch at the Washington Monument. There are many rocky sections of trail, no stream crossings to speak of,  and about  2,000 feet of total ascent . Our pace while hiking will be 2.5 - 3 mph. SUNDAY - MARCH 11 - ROCKBURN BRANCH PARK/PVSP: AVALON AND ORANGE

WEDNESDAY – MARCH 14 – GREENBELT PARK – 8M

Circuit hike of approximately 8 miles over rolling wooded terrain in Greenbelt Park, 6565 Greenbelt Road (MD-193), Greenbelt, Prince George’s County MD. SATURDAY – MARCH 17– GUNPOWDER FALLS SP – PANTHER BRANCH – 8M

SUNDAY – MARCH 18 – HARPERS FERRY/MARYLAND HEIGHTS – 10M

WEDNESDAY – MARCH 21 - VIRGINIA AT: KEYS GAP TO SNICKERS GAP - 14H                           Second in a series of five  hikes on Appalachian Trail from Harpers Ferry WV south to northern boundary of Shenandoah National Park. This is a one-way car plant hike of approximately 13.5 miles going south from Keys Gap to Snickers Gap. Trail is rocky in places. Pace averages 2.5-3.0 miles per hour. SUNDAY – MARCH 25 – GUNPOWDER FALLS NORTH & SOUTH TRAILS – 10M

WEDNESDAY – MARCH 28 - PRETTYBOY  / RIVER VALLEY-HEMLOCK GORGE - 8M

SATURDAY – MARCH 31 – MASSANUTTEN EAST – 13H

This is a one-way hike along the scenic Massanutten East ridge from its northern end to south of Veach Gap. With good weather, we will be rewarded for our hard work with seemingly never ending views of the surrounding mountains, valleys and rivers. Total elevation gain is 2000-2500 feet. The hike will be led at a moderate pace, and is appropriate for fairly strong, but not necessarily fast hikers. There will be a breakfast stop. SUNDAY – APRIL 1 - PATAPSCO VALLEY STATE PARK – 8M

WEDNESDAY – APRIL 4 – BOWLEY’S QUARTERS – 5E

 WEDNESDAY - APRIL 4 - THE BUNKER SUMMIT/LIBERTY RESERVOIR - 7M

This moderate paced hike in Howard County will be conducted at a moving average pace of 2.5 mph over rolling dirt service roads and trails. Scenery consists of reservoir overlooks in pine and hardwood forests. This moderate hike will be 7.5 miles of riverside and wooded trails in Harford County with moderate to steep hills.  There will be spectacular views, a profusion of spring wild flowers, historical landmarks, and maybe a glimpse of migrating shad. WEDNESDAY – APRIL 11 – MASON-DIXON TRAIL IN PA – 11M                                                              This in-and-out hike is almost identical to the one Ron Cully leads except it's in the opposite direction and may include Peavine Island.  We'll hike along Mill Creek and Oakland Run with some rocky terrain and a few short climbs.  Pace averages 2.5 mph.  For more information, phone, no calls after 9PM.  CARPOOL COST:  $3.00.

Explore a beautiful wilderness area in the Monongahela NF, WV. Mileage 6.5/10.5/9.5. Elevation gain 2500’. There are numerous stream crossings, so water shoes recommended. Pace will be moderate.

SUNDAY – APRIL 15 – DARLINGTON TRAIL – 10M

SATURDAY-SUNDAY – APRIL 21-22 - BEGGINNER TO EXPERIENCED BACKPACK IN NORTHERN VA

SATURDAY – APRIL 21 - LEADING RIDGE, CENTRAL DISTRICT, SNP—20S
Length: 20 miles; Elevation gain: approximately 5,000 ft. Hike on the Leading Ridge Trail, one of the steepest trails in Shenandoah National Park, to the AT and Mary’s Rock. Nice views from Leading Ridge and Mary’s Rock. We’ll return along the Hannah Run Trail and the Nicholson Hollow Trail. Several stream crossings along Hannah Run. WEDNESDAY – APRIL 25 - VIRGINIA AT: SNICKERS GAP TO ASHBY GAP - 14H                          Third in a series of five  hikes on Appalachian Trail from Harpers Ferry WV south to northern boundary of Shenandoah National Park. FRIDAY – SUNDAY – APRIL 27-29- RICKETTS GLEN STATE PARK, PA – 8M

This 13 1/2 mile out-and-back hike in Frederick County is one of the more challenging and beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail in Maryland. Rocky sections of trail are numerous, there are two major

This is a 10 mile shuttle hike on the Conestoga Trail starting at Pequea Campground and hiking south through many gorges such as Reed Run, Brubaker Run, Tucquan Glen Nature Preserve, and Kelly’s Run where will will encounter some rock scrambling. Anticipate a minimum of 5 stream crossings, amazing overlooks, such as House Rock and Pinnacle Overlook and views of the Susquehanna River. Total elevation gain of 3,000 feet. SATURDAY - JUNE 30 - AT: WOLFSVILLE ROAD TO BLACK ROCK CLIFFS - 10H
Join us on this 10 1/2 mile out-and-back hike on the Appalachian Trail in Frederick County. The hike begins with a challenging 500 foot climb in the space of a half mile, then traverses some extremely rocky terrain, and then continues for several miles till we arrive at the Black Rock Cliffs for lunch. Total ascent will be about 1500 feet and pace will be moderate (that is, our average speed while moving will be 2.5 - 3 mph).
