SUMMARY:SHENANDOAH FALL FOLIAGE HIKE: SOUTH RIVER FALLS LOOP – 10M+
DESCRIPTION:Join me on a circuit hike that goes past an old stone mission\, a cemetery with grave markers from the 1800s\, and one of the highest waterfalls in the park\, all within the beautiful forests of the national park. The trail starts at the South River Picnic Area (about eleven and a half miles drive south of Big Meadows)\, follows the Appalachian Trail north to the Pocosin Fire Road\, then descends to a junction with the Pocosin Trail\, where the ruins of the old stone Pocosin Mission can be found\, and continues south to the South River Fire Road. The South River Fire Road will take us to the base of the South River Falls. After a picnic break in the falls\, we will climb the last 2.2 (steep) miles along the beautiful South River Falls Trail back to the parking area. The loop is ten miles with about 1\,500 ft of elevation gain and stream crossings. Relaxed pace.

SUMMARY:Historic Roland Park Footpaths 5E/M
DESCRIPTION:RSVP Not Required (Meet At Trailhead) \nThis hike will combine nature treks with a walk through the neighborhood of Roland Park\, which features Olmsted-designed footpaths that wind their way between streets and houses. We will also talk about the development and history of the area in the 1890s-1920s. Although no poles are needed (unless there has been a lot of rain)\, the terrain has many hills and some of the footpaths include very steep stairways. There will be a bathroom opportunity at the beginning. Bring lunch or a snack for a break. Because we will be walking through a neighborhood with narrow streets and sidewalks\, this hike is limited to 10 people. If you can not stay for the entire hike\, especially if you’ve done the hike before\, please give someone else a chance. Registration is required.
