MCM Trail Leaders Hike With Appalachian Trail Partners

On September 1, several Mountain Club of Maryland leaders who help lead MCM’s Appalachian Trail activities participated in a Partners Hike along with representatives of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. The hike was organized by Rachel Lettre, director of ATC’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Office, to provide an opportunity for these four organizations—that manage and protect the A.T. in Maryland—to become better acquainted and share information. Eleven representatives of these four groups hiked from the Thurston Griggs Trail head to Annapolis Rocks and back, with additional stops at Black Rock and Pogo Campground to view their new tent pads. The MCM participants included John Barrett (Corridor Monitor Director), Mike O’Connor (Mid-Atlantic Regional Partnership Council representative), Bill Saunders (MCM president and Shelters Supervisor), and Jerry Wright (Trails Supervisor).

The weather was gorgeous, and the hike provided a welcome opportunity for collegial discussion of goals, issues and plans regarding the A.T. in Maryland. The photo was taken at the Black Rock overlook.
