This mostly out and back hike with a couple of loops in the middle, will follow the South Branch Patapsco River on the Carroll County side from Freedom Park to the McKeldin area of PVSP. Our pace while hiking will be about 2.5 mph. There is about 1000 ft in elevation change.

This 8-9 mile hike starts at Marriotsville Road parking area next to the railroad tracks, then hikes north towards Sykesville using the River Road Trail and side trails. There will be about 900-1000 feet of ascent.
We cross Rockbun Park into PVSP and take a combination of trails including Morning Choice , Cascade, Ridge and Garrett's Pass. Lunch near the Swinging Bridge. We take a different route back. Not much inclination, 2 potentially difficult stream crossings. Average pace is 2.5 mph.
