Volunteers Needed to Fill Leadership Positions

The Mountain Club will hold an election in late May to fill certain leadership positions. The current incumbents of two leadership positions have decided not to continue for another term. In addition, our bylaws do not permit any person to serve consecutive terms as President. So, we are seeking volunteers to serve as candidates for three leadership positions:

  • Recording Secretary (2-year term): This person attends all MCM Council meetings (six 2-hour Zoom meetings each year; takes detailed notes; and updates the draft notes after sharing them with Council members. The Recording Secretary needs good writing and grammatical skills and the ability to capture the gist of discussions between a dozen or more members of the Council.
  • Vice-President (2-year term): The Vice-President must be ready to fill in for the President in his/her absence; serves as a member of the Council and leadership team in discussions and decision-making; and may on special assignments or responsibilities.
  • President (2-year term): The President plans the agenda for, and chairs, the six annual Council meetings; sets club goals and directions in collaboration with the Council; and works closely with other club leaders to coordinate activities, resolve issues, and monitor our operations. It is important for the President to be familiar with MCM operations and programs; good communications skills are also a plus.

MCM is a successful and growing club because it is well managed by a dedicated leadership team. The three positions that are coming vacant are important parts of our team. Please consider volunteering for one of these positions and becoming part of that team.

If you have an interest in any of these positions, or simply would like to know more about what is involved in any of them, please contact president@mcomd.org.
